Police have prevented anti-social road user activity in the Wellington region for a second night running.

Wairarapa Police have put the brakes on an anti-social road user event in the Wairarapa overnight, issuing infringements and seizing vehicles.

Operation Kereru saw an increased Police presence in the Wairarapa region, taking a zero-tolerance approach to unlawful road user activity.

In the Wairarapa, Police were able to set up necessary checkpoints to disrupt behaviour before it started.

Over 50 infringements were issued, and on top of these, ten non-operational orders were served. Two vehicles were seized by Bailiffs, and one was impounded.

Police investigate incidents of damage and theft at Porirua schools

Porirua Police and Māori Wardens are increasing patrols after several incidents of damage and theft at local schools.

On Monday evening, 21 April, buildings and vehicles at two schools in Porirua East suffered over $32,000 worth of damage.

Agencies, along with the wider community have come together in support, repairs are under way and security guards will be in place across the long weekend.

A team of investigators continue to investigate the homicide of 63-year-old Abdul Nabizadah, who was found critically injured in Camperdown Road, Miramar at 2.20am on Monday 17 March. Mr Nabizadah later died in Wellington Hospital from injuries Police believe were received while being assaulted and robbed at this location at around 12.30am.

Police are seeking information from the public after an alleged assault in Wairarapa late last week.

The incident occurred in the Upper Plain Rd/Upper Waingawa Rd area on Thursday 17 April around 6pm.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, but Police are working to establish what happened. We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, specifically the driver of a ute which stopped and may have observed the events that unfolded.

Police are monitoring gang movements through the Wellington region for a funeral today.

Motorists can expect to see a large number of gang members add associates travelling around the wider Wellington region.

Police will have a visible presence as vehicles travel from Moera towards Foxton at around 11am.

We remind those travelling on our roads to not act in a way that puts anybody’s safety at risk.

Hutt Valley and Kapiti-Mana Police have pulled the handbrake on a gathering of anti-social road users.

Twenty-one vehicles have been ordered off the road and nearly 80 infringement notices issued, following a large and volatile gathering last night.

Hutt Valley Police are continuing to appeal for the public’s help to locate missing 28-year-old Thomas Basire, who has not been seen since November 2024.

Thomas was last seen walking towards Petone on the stop bank near the Ewen Bridge on Railway Ave, on 24 November 2024.

Since his disappearance, Police have conducted a number of searches around the Hutt River and riverbank area in an attempt to locate him, which have all been unsuccessful to date.
